Skegness 1st XV 31-10 Ollerton 1st XV

Skegness returned to winning ways with an impressive display against Ollerton. This crucial league game, showed to supporting crowd how the blue and whites can play rugby.
Ollerton scored first through an intercepted pass in mid field. The Ollerton back line only had to evade one defender as they ran unopposed to the try line.
The repost was immediate as Cummings collected the restart and set up a ruck. Spires received the ball running hard and slipped a pass to Halliday. Halliday then scorched through a defensive hole. As the full back attempted to tackle him he passed to the ever-present Haigh who scored under try posts. Halliday converted to make the score 7-5.
Ollerton attempted to regain the lead by chipping over the organised Skegness defence. Hotchin was solid and cleared the ball to touch with some good kicking.
With the wind in their faces Ollerton’s kicking game struggled. A floated twenty-two restart gave the blue and whites trouble. Smith charged and took the ball a full pelt. His run later led to Skegness’ next try.
The second try came from good forward play from Brown and Horner. They both supported Taylor who hit hard into the Ollerton defence. A blind side run from Haigh accepted the ball from the scrum half and jinked to dive over to score. Halliday kicked an impressive conversion to make the score 14-5 to end the half.
Skegness continued their hard work by scoring another team try. Cook, who had a try disallowed, ran hard and wide around the Ollerton defence. His ruck gave the forwards a target to attack and captain Machin was there first to drive over and secure.
Good handling through the back line gave Kime the chance to score. He committed himself and ran around his man to score under the posts. Halliday again converted and the score board read 21-5 to Skegness.
Ollerton’s second try came from another Skegness error. An attempted clearance kick after good defensive play was sliced and the ball fell into the hands on the winger who scored.
Brown gave way to the youthful Jenkins who assisted his less youthful bretherin. Santini’s return was met by cheers from the crowd and the Ollerton defence could not contain him.
Continuous pressure from forwards and backs pounded the Ollerton defence. Stevenson’s break took Skegness well over the gain line. The back flooded blind and Haigh’s eventual delayed pace gave Kime his second try in the corner. This extended the blue and whites lead to 26-10.
Johnson was introduced to the field after Taylor had to retire due to a blood injury. This assisted a dominating line out.
The final try again came from aggressive running, this time from Brookes. He set up a ruck on the twenty-two metre line. Divilly chipped the ball over the defensive line. His chance and kick on gifted him a deserved try.
This was the final score of the game and Skegness returned to the club house to watch the international. Unfortunately England could not match the seasiders result much to the enjoyment of the small welsh contingent.
