Skegness 1st XV 0-29 Worksop 1st XV

Skegness was comprehensively beaten at the weekend by a well drilled Worksop Pack. Worksop’s five tries all came from errors by the Skegness team.
Missed tackles, poor communication, turnovers and basic aspects of play gifted the Worksop team a home victory. The black and whites did not have to create much as they fed off errors.
The scrum and line out which had been working well in previous weeks was also put under enormous pressure. The first half was dominated by the wind as Worksop kept Skegness in their half for most of the game. They scored 22 points, 5 of those points came in the first three minutes.
The second half started promisingly as the Skegness squad began to play like they know they can. Turnovers, lack of support and penalties damaged the good efforts of the team. A number of overlaps were squandered and hard work resulted in no points.
Some young players were blooded and their experiences will only help them to develop further. It was a true baptism of fire.
Skegness yet again travelled away with a changed team. They need to maintain continuity and play week in week out with a squad of players. This has always been difficult for the seasiders to achieve.
They can however remember that they beat Worksop earlier in the season. Games of that quality and accomplishment need to be reproduced on a more regular basis. Player need to training to develop their own skills and seek to become a better team.
With a strong second team feeding the first team the future looks rosy for the blue and whites. They have a number of young players who will challenge for a regular first team position.
Next week Ollerton travel to the coast to meet the Skegness team. The home side will hope to return to the winning ways and reignite their season.
